Hello and welcome to my site. My name is Kate (Katherine Anne) Mallabone. I grew up exploring Dartmoor in Devon and surfing on the Cornish coast. However, I currently live in Bristol with my wonderful husband, our three fantastic children and one young loopy English Springer Spaniel, called Milo!
I initially started painting with the amazing artist, Mr Fernando Velasquez, roughly five years ago having never painted or drawn before. I then started quickly to learn the practicalities of oil painting (and had the freedom to develop my style) from a great teacher and artist, Carolyn Corlett (Finch) in Dorset. I learnt so much from her and she even encouraged me to paint left handed (when I broke a bone in my right hand) which was a great skill to master! I fell in love with using oils and so most of my artwork are painted in oils, even using oil bars for my more abstract work. I do also use acrylic, gouache, watercolours and spray paints. I am very passionate about painting the beautiful Devon moorland, Cornwall and Brittany coastlines but also enjoy the freedom that abstract work gives me. When I lived in Portsmouth a year ago I naturally painted Royal Navy ships too via commissions, mostly as leaving presents for commanding officers. I have worked hard to develop my knowledge of all things military and will happily paint ships, submarines, planes, tanks, etc which might have a personal connection to you!! My Please take a look at the military category on this site via the menu at the top of the page for some examples of original oil paintings of Royal Naval ships. I regularly exhibit in exhibitions and shows, in Dorset, Hampshire and the Bristol area and was recently awarded a commendation for an exhibited seascape. I mainly take commissions for all my art work but also have a range of original art, prints and cards for sale. If you have any questions then please do get in touch (details from the contact button) and I will happily answer as soon as I can. |
